On May 10, 2024, Bethesda Game Studios took to their X platform account to announce an imminent update for the beloved action RPG, Fallout 4, scheduled for release on May 13. This update promises to introduce enhanced graphics and performance settings, along with a host of much-needed fixes and improvements. However, many players recently expressed concerns regarding the previous next-gen update released in April, which unfortunately introduced a series of new issues that necessitated this follow-up patch.
Set against a post-apocalyptic backdrop in the Boston area and the broader Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Fallout 4 invites players to explore its intricate open world and rich lore.
What’s Included in the Latest Update?
Following the shaky rollout of the April update, players encountered an array of issues across various platforms. These ranged from broken mod support to user interface glitches for PC gamers using ultrawide monitors, and quality mode bugs impacting Xbox players. In response, Bethesda has swiftly prepared Fallout 4’s next-gen Update 2 to address these concerns.
The new updates have been designated as follows: 1.10.765 for Xbox Series S and X, 1.10.985 for PlayStation 5, and 1.10.984 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Bethesda claims to have implemented fixes based on user feedback received from their last update. However, numerous players remain dissatisfied as some critical issues persist. In particular, PC users feel that the company is prioritizing console-related issues over those affecting the PC version. The ultrawide screen mode on PC continues to present problems, with the user interface stretching and no options available for adjustments. Below are some of the key features from the latest update.
Enhanced Graphics and Performance Control
The graphical and performance management options are now available on the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. Bethesda advises players to utilize the preset default settings for an optimal experience.
Frame Rate Target Features
The new update includes a Frame Rate Target feature, allowing players to select from 30, 40, or 60 frames per second. However, it is important to note that the 40 fps option is only achievable with a 120Hz display, which is exclusive to console users.
Visual and Performance Preferences
Players can now prioritize between visual fidelity and performance. While both options are available to select, it is advisable to choose the Performance setting for a smoother gameplay experience at 60 fps. These adjustments can only be made through the Main Menu and are not available during active gameplay.

Despite these modifications, many users are advising a rollback to previous game versions to mitigate the recently arisen issues, particularly concerning mod support.
User Feedback on Persistent Bugs
A Reddit user “jumpyg1258” voiced frustrations about bugs on the Xbox version after the update, noting, “Bugs still persist that I’ve noticed on Xbox: 1) VATS is completely broken, 2) I can’t barter with vendors set in settlements, and 3) After exiting power armor, objects continue to be highlighted.”
Additionally, a PC user named tf2dove expressed disappointment over the lack of frame rate targeting for PC users, stating, “Is frame rate targeting only for consoles? This is disappointing, considering that frame rates above 60 can disrupt gameplay. I was hoping this would alleviate the need to constantly change my monitor’s refresh rate while playing Fallout 4.”
